Kenya Moore is taking to her Bravo Blog to dish on this week's episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Kenya Moore dishes on her hair care line and her disappointment with the party planners. Kenya writes:
"THE NEXT MADAM CJ WALKER
My grandmother who raised me would always say, “Hair is your crowning glory,” which is also a quote from the Bible. Amongst many things, I’ve learned to be strong from her; to be smart; and to be passionate. I have a great passion for empowering women. I’ve always admired Madam CJ Walker, who was the first self-made American woman millionaire; she neither inherited her money nor married someone who was a millionaire. She was a woman who came from the cotton fields who promoted herself into the business of manufacturing hair goods. She built her own factory on her own ground.
I too am self-made, often believing in myself when no one else did. Over the past 5 years I have developed, researched, tested, and branded Kenya Moore Hair Care. The culmination of my hard work and dedication should have been reflected in my launch party, since I’ve always thrown the most elaborate and memorable parties. The launch party was my baby. I entrusted event planners that did not execute my vision. It was an epic fail on their part. The positive side is I now have world-wide distribution and retail stores that will be carrying my line very soon. In many ways, I failed up.
WATER IN A BOTTLE
I thought Porsha and I were in a better place, which is why I invited her and Phaedra to my party. There were over 100 gift bags with actual Kenya Moore Hair Care Product given away at my event. Yet Porsha and her side kick chose to focus on the display only bottles used as table decorations and negatively mock my product line.
It’s sad that Porsha and Phaedra always feel a need to be hateful toward me after all we have been through to move past our tumultuous history. Together they dumb each other down. Phaedra taking digs at my previous skin condition with my date and making the comment about my skin being dark. These types of ignorant comments not only insult me as a dark skinned woman but an entire race. All black is beautiful. We should be celebrating our differences, which is why in my opinion Phaedra's comment warrants an apology.
And then there is Porsha, who relentlessly goes out of her way to imply my hair is a “weave” or that I wear her line of fake hair -- all coming from the girl who has never shown her real hair on TV and chooses to wear booty-length full wigs, weaves, and clip-in hair attachments on a daily basis. I don’t judge because that is her choice, however, I have all natural waist length, strong, healthy, thick hair as a result of using my own products. Hair extensions are a useful tool when changing your style, color, protection, mood, or as medically necessary. The beauty about having your own natural, healthy hair is you have the power to make a choice and not be a slave to fake hair.
MOORE FRIENDS
Thank you to my many friends who showed up to support me. To Miss Lawrence, who helped with my focus group to test my products on actual clients and gave honest feedback. Kandi and Cynthia for being business role models. Thank you to the fabulous Marlo, who helped with my planning. Claudia, who was there the entire time. Brandon, who always has my back. I appreciated Sheree coming and pushing the reset button. We got off to a bad start, but I believe we will eventually be good neighbors and perhaps friends.
Kenya Moore Hair Care is a certified minority woman owned business. It took 5 years, but I did that! Thank you to the iconic and legendary Madame CJ Walker for being my inspiration.
Kenya Moore Hare Care can be purchased at KenyaMooreHair.com and ships Black Friday!
