Teresa Giudice will be released from prison on Wednesday, December 23, after serving nearly a year in a Danbury, Connecticut facility for multiple counts of fraud. Ahead of her release, her lawyer, James J. Leonard Jr., spoke exclusively to The Daily Dish about the Real Housewives of New Jersey star's final hours away from reuniting with her family.
"She is extrememly upbeat. She is very excited. She is very anxious to get home to her family and enjoy the holidays just like everybody else," he told the Bravo website. "I think the most exciting thing for her is, at this point, sleeping in her own bed. I think that is something that she is very much looking forward to doing and that is right now a few short days away. So I'm very happy that we're here, she's in great spirits and it's going to be a very Merry Christmas in that house."
Teresa is expected to spend Christmas Eve at her brother Joe Gorga's house in Montville, NJ. From there, she'll make time for other members of her family — as well as herself.
"I think that she's going to be spending Monday with the Giudice family and then, I think, she's going to take a little bit of time in the days that follow just trying to relax and unwind a bit."
Most importantly, Teresa will be reunited with her four daughters: Gia, Gabriella, Milania, and Audriana.
"It's been very, very difficult for her and her daughters, but they've communicated," Leonard Jr. said. "They've seen one another with visits and emails and phone calls. They've been able to Skype one another. She's been a daily presence in their lives. But, obviously, there's no substitute for actually not being there. So for her to come home and be reunited with them is something that both she and the girls are very much looking forward to."
"You know, I think it's going to be a bit overwhelming, as it would be [for] anybody," he explained. "There are a lot of things that she's missed, unfortunately, and she's going to have to kind of get brought up to speed on all of that. The first few days home will be kind of getting acclimated to all of that, but my expectations are it will take her a few days then she will be back on her feet. But she's really looking forward to being home being with her husband and being with her children [for the holidays], 100 percent."
It's been reported that cameras will be rolling once Teresa is released from prison to capute everything on camera, including reuniting with her family during Joe Gorga's Christmas Eve party.
