During the season nine premiere episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Cynthia Bailey got candid about wanting a divorce from Peter Thomas, which is something she confirmed earlier this year. Now, Cynthia's co-star Kenya Moore is sharing her thoughts on the former couples split.
"I think that Cynthia has to do what's right for Cynthia. If that means staying with Peter and that makes her happy, I'm happy for her. If that means divorcing Peter, and that makes her happy, I'm behind her," Kenya recently told The Daily Dish. "I think that it's a personal choice. I have nothing to say either way as long as my friend who I love is happy."
Kenya said that hearing about Cynthia's divorce wasn't completely unexpected since the pals frequently discuss their personal issues with one another. "I don't think that Cynthia announcing that she was divorcing was surprising to me because I just knew a lot of how her marriage was going. Of course we talk on and off-camera. We're really friends. We hang out together, whether there's a camera around or not," Kenya explained. "It was just a personal choice, and I just had to support her either way."
The former Miss USA went on to explain that Cynthia has had good and bad days as she prepares to finalize her divorce from Peter. "With anyone who's going through a divorce, there are so many colors and layers. I think at some point you're upset, some point you're sad, some point you're happy, some point you're not sure whether or not you want to go through with it. I think it's just a gamut of emotions that you go through. I don't know if you know what it is unless you're actually going through it," Kenya said. "So for me, I just wanted to support her in whatever capacity that I could."
It sounds like Kenya and Cynthia are tighter than ever these days. However, have the two officially reached "best friend" status? As you may recall, their closeness came into question last season when NeNe Leakes returned to join the ladies on their group trip to Jamaica. "I think that Cynthia is and will be one of my best friends," Kenya confirmed to The Daily Dish. "I think that we just don't get caught up on the words anymore. I know she loves me like a sister, I love her like a sister, and I think as long as we just support each other, the words are not important."
But Kenya said that the drama that ensued among the RHOA cast and fans alike was warranted. "I think the whole BFF-gate wasn't blown out of proportion because people want to know, where do your loyalties lie?" she explained. "If you have been with this woman for years and you guys have been closer than ever, and then all of a sudden NeNe comes in town and you're saying we're still getting to know each other, it hit home with a lot of people because they were just kind of appalled that she would even say that, let alone think it."
