According to a new report, guests at Luann de Lesseps’ wedding to Thomas D’Agostino Jr. were divided over an unusual request from the bride and groom. Page Six reports that The Real Housewives of New York City star and her hubby had thoughtfully asked guests to donate to one of two charities instead of sending a wedding gift — but two days before the New Year’s Eve wedding, the lovebirds changed their minds.
Apparently the couple sent out an email asking that donations be sent to a GoFundMe.com account collecting money to help with the medical expenses of an unnamed relative who had recently suffered an unidentified ailment.
The publication claims that some attendees thought the gesture was generous, others called it “tacky.”
“You’re going to spend a half-million-plus on a wedding, and then ask your friends to cough up for your relative’s Band-Aids?,” one guest told the publication. “LuAnn and Tom are both very rich — [they should] write a check to their relative and not hustle their wedding guests for cash.”
“It really didn’t seem like a reality star’s wedding,” said a guest at the soiree held at the Brazilian Court Hotel in Palm Beach, Fla. “There weren’t cameras in your face” or production staff “asking you to sign releases.”
Revealing that the celebration was a model of class of sophistication.
